11 May 2016, Muguga, Kenya - Vincent Ondendo, a laboratory technician at Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO), retreives frozen specimens of the rinderpest causing pathogens 11, May 2016 that is to be destroyed through autoclave at the Biotechnology Research Institute situated at the Muguga KALRO Campus in Kiambu county, Kenya. Destroying virus samples kept in laboratory freezers, one-third of which are storing them at biosecurity level 2 ?too low, is seen as a critical step in ensuring that a disease that took years to eradicate remains gone.
