15 July 2017, Zarzis, Tunisia. Fishermen in the port of Zarzis. Blue Hope Initiative project sites in Zarzis. Supporting Mediterranean small-scale fishing communities in transforming vulnerable coastal zones into engines of stability and hope. Coastal fisheries communities are often vulnerable populations facing numerous challenges, but the widespread migration across the Mediterranean in recent years has added to these communities' economic and environmental stresses, including impacts on social cohesion and conflicts. The Blue Hope Initiative's activities and interventions are tailored to rural development, building and strengthening the resilience of communities on a social, economic, ecosystem and institutional level, as it relates to coastal resources and other relevant external challenges (e.g. climate change, migration, etc.).
