17 July 2022, Samangan, Afghanistan - An FAO officer asking a local female farmer about her problems, in Qezelbash village, Daresof Bala district.
Background information
FAO is supporting vulnerable women-headed families with vegetable/home gardening cultivation inputs and training to enable them to grow vegetables for domestic consumption and some surplus for sale in local markets to generate cash income. With UNCERF and AHF support, 2 750 women-headed families have been provided with certified vegetable seeds (cabbage, coriander, onion, okra, squash, red radish, tomato and eggplant) along with home gardening tools in the northern Samangan Province of Afghanistan.
The vegetables produced as a result of this assistance will increase access to nutritious food for up to four to six months and will boost each family's income by USD 60-80 per month for up to four to five months.
