25 April, 2017, Lurambi, Kakamega County, western Kenya - Joyce Makaka with some of her staff attaches catfish eggs artificially infused with sperm to a water cabbage with the aim of initiating artificial fertilization at a hatchery on her Jafi Enterprises fish farm. Joyce's Jafi Enterprises fish project is a beneficiary of FAO's Africa Solidarity Trust Fund (ASTF), an innovative fund to improve agriculture and food security across the continent, breeding exotic and indigenous species of Tilapia and Catfish alongside ornamental species that include Goldfish and Cod for sale in the Kenyan market.
