26 June 2019, Daraa Governorate, Syria - Fatima is now the sole breadwinner for three children. With assistance from FAO and its partners, she has returned to beekeeping to earn a living. FAO has reached 500 people in various Syrian governorates, helping to restart livelihoods and return self-reliance.
Many people have lost family members, homes and livelihoods in the ongoing conflict in Syria. In the southwest part of the country, FAO is providing beekeeping kits to help returnees rebuild their livelihoods. New beekeepers work with experts to learn the "tricks of the trade". This knowledge exchange helps to encourage trust and social cohesion, rebuilding communities.
