26 October 2018, Santa Rosa de Salinas, Ecuador - Delegates attending the Coastal Fisheries Initiative (CFI) Global Inception Meeting pass a sign indicating the hours of registration for certification by artisanal fisherman in the Santa Rosa Cooperative. Authorities of Ecuador, Peru, Indonesia, Cote d?Ivoire, and Cabo Verde met to launch the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Programme, the Global Coastal Fisheries Initiative Programme (CFI). The CFI promotes sustainable fisheries management practices aimed at building vibrant coastal communities. The Global Inception Meeting took place in Guayaquil, hosted by the Latin American CFI project. Programme partners are GEF, FAO, World Bank, United Nations Development Program (UNDP), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), WWF, Conservation International, alongside ministries of the six pilot countries (Cabo Verde, Cote d?Ivoire, Ecuador, Indonesia, Peru, and Senegal). During the event, more than 40 members from five of the six pilot countries and CFI partners shared their activities and experiences, and identified areas for collaboration and exchange of knowledge across continents.
