8 May 2006, Ahmetcayiri Village - A group of rural women who keep backyard poultry coops answering questions regarding their poultry. An Avian Flu outbreak was discovered in this village and resulted in the culling of over 400 domestic fowl. Families in rural areas often have very small backyard poultry farms to earn income for household expenses.

The objective of the project is to strengthen the national and regional capacities to respond to transboundary animal disease emergencies through technology transfer in the fields of diagnostics, vaccinology, epidemiology and emergency preparedness.
