A farmer harvesting cucumbers which were introduced to the area through the TeleFood project in order to improve the diet of the population. - - Horticultural Production in the village of Kabatekenda: TFD-97/SEN/002. The purpose of this TeleFood project was to develop and intensify market gardening and irrigated fruit tree cultivation. Different crops were sown and the harvests were staggered throughout the year in order to improve the diet of the population living in the area and to generate additional revenue. The women and children of the area will particularly benefit from a better and more varied diet.

The project supplied basic equipment: pedal pumps, material to construct storage facilities; a supply of high-return seeds and plants adapted to local conditions; organic and mineral fertilizers; hand tools; and the most appropriate pesticides with respect to methods of production and protection.
