The United Nations Development Programme is financing a 5-year project, in cooperation with the Government and executed by FAO, to aid agricultural development in the Jebel Marra area of Sudan. Tobacco is an important cash crop in this area, and FAO experts in horticulture, mechanical and road engineering and ground water resources are assisting the local farmers toward the introduction of modern methods and thereby increase production.
