It also has the highest infant mortality rate (62.4/1 000) of the whole of Latin America. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), with financial assistance from the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA), is training women home-improvement workers in population education, mother and child health and nutrition and family planning advice. Women home-improvement workers are stationed in the villages where they work alongside their male agricultural counterparts to better the living conditions of the local Indian population.
