After the hay is mown it is raked into bundles in readiness for the hay-cart. - - Haymaking and cattle feeding.. Peuls are semi-nomadic pastoralists in the north of Senegal. They depend mainly on stock rearing for their economy, but the harsh climatic conditions (300-500 mm. Rainfall with a nice-month dry season) bring many problems in cattle production. At the request of the Government, an FAO specialist has been advising the Peul people, since 1961, on methods of haymaking to improve their cattle nutrition. To assist demonstrations throughout the pastoral region, the Government requested supplies of animal traction equipment etc., from the Freedom from Hunger Campaign. Donations to the project, through FFHC, include an initial US$ 5,200 from Entraide et FraterniteÂ?elgium) and a further US$ 21,500 from Misereor.
