Small Scale Irrigation, Development and Training for Vegetable Cultivation Agriculture provides the livelihood of about 60% of the population of Zambia; with most of the production being absorbed by agriculture into commercial farming is the major problem. The UNDP, along with the FAO as executing agency, is assisting the government with a project designed to establish a small-scale irrigation, development and training centre for vegetable cultivation at (near Kitwe). The plan is to introduce common vegetables, which have a higher nutritional value than the traditional low-nutrient crops such as cassava and millet. Assistance is also given in the wholesale marketing of vegetables.
