Boys from newly settled families playing in a river. - - WFP Assistance to Transmigrants in Sumatra. This project assists the Government in its plans to consolidate the old settlement areas in Lampung Province, Sumatra. Many of these trans-migrants have ventured out on their own, usually from overcrowded Java, and are forced to live in primitive conditions. The UN/FAO World Food Programme provided a partial ration to 7,600 existing settler families in 1973. During 1974 the project was amended, as a result of which 10,000 new settler families have received WFP food to date. The tota1 cost of this project to WFP has been $5,788,000.
