DEVELOPMENT OF INSHORE ARTISAN FISHING, Senegal, 1977 - Drawing in the purse seine net aboard the project vessel ?ompat". The aims of this FAO project are to build up fisheries development centres in four important artisan fisheries locations: St. Louis, Joal, Foundiougne and Siguinchor. The objectives are to collect and analyse statistical data on fisheries and also the biological data necessary to evaluate and survey the main stocks of fish exploited by artisan fisheries along the Senegalese coast. Moreover, demonstrations of the purse seine net and other fishing gear are being given to fishermen using various types of marine vessels.
