DEVELOPMENT OF INSHORE ARTISAN FISHING, Senegal, 1977 - Part of the plant in a fish meal factory at Djifer. The aims of this FAO project are to build up fisheries development centres in four important artisan fisheries locations: St. Louis, Joal, Foundiougne and Siguinchor. The objectives are to collect and analyse statistical data on fisheries and also the biological data necessary to evaluate and survey the main stocks of fish exploited by artisan fisheries along the Senegalese coast. Moreover, demonstrations of the purse seine net and other fishing gear are being given to fishermen using various types of marine vessels.
