Extensionist offering a tasty portion of chicken to a village child. - - Upgrading the National Agricultural Extension Service: BKF/87/017. Assistance is provided to the National Agricultural Extension Service of Burkina Faso within the framework of project BKF/87/017 funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). A central communication unit has been established and various written and audiovisual materials produced and extension workers have been trained in the use of these materials in rural areas. UNFPA provided assistance in terms of producing an audio visual programme related to population education focusing on improved nutrition, with particular emphasis on feeding children. This filmstrip tells the story of a group of women in a small village in Burkina Faso who decide to raise chickens for consumption and sale. The extension worker shows them how to proceed in order to obtain credit for the construction of the chicken house and the actual poultry raising. The importance of eggs in the diet of children and the preparation of traditional dishes is underlined.
