Handing over tools to TeleFood beneficiaries. - - Yam and Banana Production for Port Vila Markets: TFD/97/VAN/001. The aim of this TeleFood funded project is to improve agricultural techniques in the production of yams and bananas for the Port Vila markets.

Two groups will be the major beneficiaries from the project: producers on the Island of Efate, who will be able to earn more income through monocropping of these food crops and consumers in Port Vila, who will be able to purchase them at affordable prices. By specializing in the production of yams and bananas on a large scale, this system will, if successful, assist in lowering the price of yams and bananas and imported rice should eventually be replaced by these domestically grown starches.
