Hungary, July 1963. Measuring the uptake of a radioactive fertilizer by potted rice plants. The improvement of rice crops is one of the foremost problems in the struggle against hunger in large parts of the world. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has embarked on an international programme to use nuclear energy in rice cultivation research.
