The Peruvian Veterinary Institute for Tropical and High Altitude Research was set up by the Peruvian government, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), which aided with financing, and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, which supplied technical experts. The Institute makes extensive studies in the breeding of poultry under conditions that are normally considered unfavorable for chicken raising. Llamas, alpacas and vicunas and are also studied here.
