Portrait of a woman at a Mothers' Club meeting for rural women. - - WFP Assistance to Mothers' Clubs. Mothers' Clubs in several rural areas of Bolivia are assisted by UN Volunteers, the UN/FAO World Food Programme and the International Labour Organization. The general aim is to help form cooperative associations of women for the promotion of social and income-earning activities. Through the WFP project, members of Mothers' Clubs are allowed to purchase WFP commodities from the club at about 50% of the market price and the proceeds will be used to help establish small-scale industries. One such group near Cochabamba is working on a project to upgrade the quality of pottery production and, it is hoped, to reintroduce some of the long-forgotten Inca designs.
