Project site along the White Nile. Young men collecting watermelons. They are grown on the stretch of land along the river usually flooded during the rainy season. The melons are sold to middlemen coming to buy the product from the different farmers of the area. If the farmers are not happy with the price offered by the middlemen, they can bring the melons to the town. Unfortunately the price they can get in town is about the same if not less of what they would have received by the middlemen on their fields. In fact the middlemen are the same and they also know farmers at that stage are forced to sell even at a lower price. Some times farmers sell the water melons directly at the market. - - TCE Emergency projects.
