RURAL, ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT, Haiti, 1979,
Haiti is classified by the United Nations as one of the least economically developed countries. lt is currently receiving assistance from the UN FAO/World Food Programme. Part of the food aid is used for a multipurpose project aimed at combatting soil erosion, improving the use of water resources, reafforestation and irrigation. Food commodities are provided as daily rations for project workers and their families. Other WFP projects receiving food assistance include adult and literacy education (involving almost 85% of the population) and food aid to mother and child centres, hospitals and nutrition rehabilitation centres.
