Six months ago, Haiti was severely hit by Hurricane Matthew. Here, as in the other departments of the southern part of the country, people have lost their lives, thousands of houses were damaged, or generally destroyed, thousands of hectares of crops and trees were lost, and thousands of animals perished, and those that survived are often sick. In order to support herders, FAO in coordination with local authorities and the support of the Government of the Kingdom of Belgium is implementing mobile veterinary clinics that will allow for the vaccination of the livestock of 2 500 herder families. Each mobile veterinary clinic consists of a veterinarian and two veterinary officers who travel to affected areas to conduct animal health and nutrition assessment visits and provide preventive care and treatment.
