UNDP(SF)/FAO ANIMAL HEALTH AND INDUSTRY TRAINING INSTITUTE.
Nairobi, Kenya, December 1967. - Much of UNDP/FAO assistance in Kenya is concentrated in the education sector. At the Animal Health and Industry Training Institute (AHITI) near Nairobi, experts of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), are helping to train young students from Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda - as well as a few from Zambia and Malawi - as animal health assistants. The students receive an intensive two-year course which stresses the practical and social aspects of the students' future work. In the words of Dr. Igo Mann (United Kingdom!), FAO's project manager: "The primary aim of AHITI is leadership training. We are trying to train a rural leader who in turn will teach the rural people what he knows."
