13 March 2010, Croix des Bouquets - FAO Director-General (C) Jacques Diouf greeting school children with Haitian Minister of Agriculture Joanas Gué (R) before the Fruit Trees for Haiti tree planting ceremony. The FAO Fruit Trees for Haiti programme aims to provide teachers with a hands-on education tool for children in a country that suffers from some of the worst rates of deforestation in the world. Fruit trees were chosen because, once fully grown, they will also help improve nutrition. Tree planting symbolizes FAO efforts to revitalize agriculture in Haiti.
