13 March 2010, Croix des Bouquets - FAO Director-General Jacques Diouf and students at the Fruit Trees for Haiti kick-off ceremony at a local school garden. The FAO Fruit Trees for Haiti initiative aims to provide teachers with a hands-on education tool for children in a country that suffers from some of the worst rates of deforestation in the world. Fruit trees were chosen because, once fully grown, they will also help improve nutrition. Tree planting symbolizes FAO efforts to revitalize agriculture in Haiti.
