21 May 2011, Katandica - Husband and wife farmers Peter Waziweyi and Elizabeth Sikoya explaining the work they do growing bean and maize crops to FAO delegates visiting their 100 hectare farm. Due to high food prices and high food demand in Mozambique FAO is giving farmers with vouchers free seeds so they can produce high quality maize and make higher profits. FAO Project: GCP /MOZ/099/EC - Boosting agricultural production and market linkages for small-holder farmers to counter soaring food prices. The overarching impact of the project as a whole is to enhance the food security and livelihood status of 30 000 farmers (150 000 people) in rural poor agricultural communities to buffer the effects of soaring food prices.
