25 April, 2017, Lurambi, Kakamega County, western Kenya - Joyce Makaka with the aide of a staff member extracts eggs from a fertile female catfish at a hatchery on her Jafi Enterprises fish farm. Joyce's Jafi Enterprises fish project is a beneficiary of FAO's Africa Solidarity Trust Fund (ASTF), an innovative fund to improve agriculture and food security across the continent, breeding exotic and indigenous species of Tilapia and Catfish alongside ornamental species that include Goldfish and Cod for sale in the Kenyan market.
