26 November 2010, Meru - President of Kenya Mwai Kibaki (C) and other dignitaries at the unveiling of a buffalo statue at the Meru National Park where the last known outbreak of rinderpest amongst the local buffalo population was recorded almost a decade ago. Rinderpest, a disease afflicting mainly cloven-hooved animals, is only the second disease to be successfully wiped out globally, after smallpox, through human efforts.
