26 October 2018, Santa Rosa de Salinas, Ecuador - Delegates from the Coastal Fisheries Initiative (CFI) group, travelled to the artisanal Fishery Cooperative of Santa Rosa de Salinas, where they visited the pre-processing plant, where freshly captured fish arrive, is negotiated wholesale and filleted for retail sale. They also attended a talk from the cooperative directors and had lunch with them, as part of the program of the GEF CFI Global Inception meeting in Equador. Global Environmental Facility (GEF) Coastal Fisheries Initiative (CFI) Global Inception Meeting. Authorities from Ecuador, Peru, Indonesia, Ivory Coast, Cape Verde and Senegal met to launch the Global Coastal Fisheries Initiative Program (CFI) promoting sustainable fisheries management. The first meeting was held in the City of Guayaquil and had as host the Latin American CFI Project, executed by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) with the support of WWF, CI and FAO. During the event, more than 40 members of the six countries and partners of the CFI shared their experience and research, while developing possible applications for sustainable fisheries.
