28, May 2013, Siaya District, Kenya - Men preparing soil for planting banana plants using conservation agriculture technique to faciltate water retention. Leon Nyamde, digs a hole two feet down to plant a banana sucker in. Nyamde temporarily moved in with his uncle to help during planting season. He also explained how using cover crops and banana leaves provides food for livestock. This new way of planting allows farmers to save excess rain water that would otherwise wash away top soil and flood the entire area.
