UK project 508: increasing the availability and access to food for vulnerable households living in crisis-affected areas, whilst restoring cereal production capacity.
4 April 2016, Muhradah district, Hama, Syria - A FAO field monitor. Thanks to the support of the Department for International Development (DFID) of the United Kingdom, each farmer received 200 kgs of wheat seeds, and is expected to be able to harvest 2.2 tonnes of wheat grain. This is enough to ensure the daily consumption of 0.5 kg of grain, based on a household of six people, for one year. Additionally, each farmer can save up to 200 kg of seeds for planting in the next season and can produce up to 3 tonnes of fodder to feed livestock, bridging the feed gap at times of unavailable grazing pastures.
