5 June 2010, Hiwane - An FAO-EU Project beneficiary working on a potato crop. To ensure a plentiful harvest she planted a variety of crops: maize, onions and potatoes. FAO-EU Project: GCP/ETH/060/BEL - Improving Nutrition and Household Food Security in Northern Shoa & Southern Zone of Tigray (Phase II GCP/ETH/056/BEL). This project will undertake an in-depth participatory appraisal in two project sites in Ethiopia: parts of Tarmaber and Lalomama woredas and in Northern Shewa, Amhara Region and Hintalo Wajerat woreda and parts of Enderta woreda in Southern Zone, Tigray Region. Based on the findings and recommendations of the rural appraisal, a project document will be prepared to support actions and programmes aimed at lasting improvements in household food security and nutritional status of the population. A final project document Improving Household Food Security and Nutrition in Northern Shewa, Amhara Region and Southern Zone, Tigray Region, Ethiopia will be formulated for approval and signature by the Donor agency and the Government for project. The project document will be the outcome of this Preparatory Project, which will be finalised and approved at a project review workshop of the Government, the Donor Agency and FAO at the end of this Project.
