The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) lends money to rural women to raise animals or work small plots of land in pilot project areas because in many cases men have left the farms and women are solely responsible for their upkeep as well as the maintenance of children. - - Strengthening of the Rural Farm Family Development Programme: CGP/JAM/013/NOR. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), with Norway as donor government, is helping the Jamaican Ministry of Agriculture to develop a comprehensive long-term plan for strengthening its Rural Farm Family Development Programme (RUFFADEP). The objectives of the project are to design, implement and evaluate methodical strategies to assist rural women in developing organizational management and leadership capabilities; to improve the socio-economic status of rural families through increased production, productive employment, improved nutritional standards, family welfare and family planning, counselling and primary health care.
