A Yao grandmother and her small grandson in a remote mountainous area of northern Thailand. - - General: General. Over the past few decades the Kingdom of Thailand has made such impressive advances in overall development that it is believed that it may soon become a "Nic"i.e. a newly industrialized country. However, Thailand still has many problems in rural areas and in the fields of fisheries, forestry and agriculture, and has always looked to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) for assistance in development efforts. There are 45 FAO-assisted projects underway in Thailand covering most sectors of fisheries, forestry, livestock, agriculture and rural development in general. These projects are funded by the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA), Trust Funds supplied by FAO donor countries. FAO's Freedom from Hunger Campaign (FFHC), and FAO's Technical Cooperation Programme (TCP).
