The UN Food and Agriculture Organization is helping the Government of Ecuador plan, formulate and execute a wide variety of projects aimed at improving the living conditions and income of the rural population in certain selected areas of the country. FAO programme objectives include coordinating public and private institutions in Ecuador and improving training for counterpart officers and farmers, and introducing suitable income technologies such as artisan crafts, and inputs such as fertilizers for improving cultivation of potatoes. Other FAO projects are helping to develop potable and reservoir water systems and improve management of animal and land resources as well as marketing practices.
