December 21, 2016, Altavas, Aklan, Philippines - A boy plays with sprinkled water as he coming from a faucet intalled in the middle of the rice field. About 130 households in Altavas, Aklan now benifits from FAO Water Impounding Project providing the community easy access to water for their basic demand at home and agricultural needs. The water impounding project is part of FAOs larger effort to improve food and nutrition security in Western Visayas. The reservoir is designed to collect water from the rain, as well as from Gando Falls. It will be equipped with pipes that connect to more than 300 households in barangays Lupo and Catmon. Aside from providing water for drinking and other domestic needs, the water impounding system will also be used to irrigate farms. It will also provide water access to two public elementary schools, which will benefit more than 150 children aged 12 and below.
