DEEP-SEA FISHING TRAINING CENTRE, Pusan, Republic of Korea. December 1968.
This United Nations Development Programme - Special Fund (UNDP-SF) Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) project has the aim of establishing and operating a Centre that will train fisheries technicians rapidly and efficiently. The 5-year, nearly $2 million project is being carried out in co-operation with Korea's Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The 550- student Centre offers 6 to 12-month intensive training courses in fishing techniques, navigation and marine engines to trainees selected from graduates of fishery colleges and vocational high schools and from among working fishermen. Three training vessels, two tuna long-liners and a trawler, are used for practical instruction. The Centre is Korea's largest of its kind and will become the core of the nation's fishery training system.
