Ethiopia, March 1953 - This photograph shows a general view of the village of Torke with several groups of cattle awaiting their turn to be vaccinated against rinderpest. In the foreground a group of officials stand discussing the work; they are: the Chief of Torke, his secretary, Dr. Razmilic and Dr. Vandemaele, FAO veterinarians, and Dr. Sitnikoff, Field veterinarian of the Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has sent a mission to Ethiopia to help modernize the country's agriculture and forestry. Working there are experts in crop production, animal production, animal diseases' control, rural welfare, forest development and nutrition. This mission includes a team of FAO veterinarians.
