Farm boys ho1d a sugar beet weighing 3.5 kg. which was grown on the experimenta1 farm south of Taiz and which wi11 be used as fodder. The growing of sugar beet was introduced by UN vo1unteers. - - UN Voluntary Workers. The UNDP is financing several agricultural development projects in the Yemen, executed by FAO, including provision of the services of 16 UN vo1unteers to work on various aspects of the projects. In this pioneer scheme, young peop1e in their twenties or early thirties volunteered for work from some 13 different nations where they had trained in various aspects of modern agriculture. They have great1y increased the impact of the FAO projects and seem to have provided a very receptive farming community with the principa1 inputs for increasing agricultura1 productivity of vita1 importance to the Yemen Arab Republic which the UN has c1assified as one of the world's 25 least developed countries.
