The FAO/UNDP South China Sea Development and Coordinating Programme (SCSP), based in Manila, lasted from 1973 to 1983. The programme has focused on pelagic surveys by acoustic methods, resource assessment, and fishery statistics and has helped countries to develop management strategies (Exclusive Economic Zones). It has also established the Committee for the Development and Management of Fisheries in the South China Sea (CDMSCS) under the aegis of the Indo-Pacific Fisheries Commission as a permanent regional coordinating mechanism and an expansion of TCDC. A very successful project, it has generated funding of some USD 238 million from various agencies, including the Canadian International Development Agency, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and the Nordics.
