Training and advisory services were provided to the fisherwomen by BOBP. - - The Bay of Bengal Programme: GCP/RAS/118/MUL(BOBP. The Bay of Bengal Programme (BOBP), started in 1979 with headquarters in Madras, India seeks to help small-scale fisherfolk in seven countries (Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand). The BOBP develops, demonstrates and promotes new ideas, new technologies and methodologies in several disciplines: fishing craft and gear, aquaculture, post-harvest fisheries, fishery resources and extension. Several technologies/methodologies developed by BOBP have led to useful projects or generated valuable lessons for fisherfolk, officials and planners. Though the Bay of Bengal region is diverse, there are common problems, particularly in the upper part of the Bay - Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka. Likewise, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand have some common characteristics, particularly in the nature of the resource.
