March 1962 - the Freedom-from-Hunger Campaign was launched in Rome by the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on 1 July 1960. The Director-General has characterized the Campaign, from its beginning, as a threefold operation: in the fields of education and information, of research, and of action. Much interest has been focused recently on action projects. They are prominent in the Campaign plans of a number of FFHC National Committees.
