National expert monitoring growth of an improved crop of Medicago, which will be used for animal fodder. - - Emergency provision of essential livestock feeds adn animal health inputs to drought-affected farmers.: OSMA/AFG/002/SW1. The mountainous terrain of Afghanistan provides upland grazing on a seasonal basis. Practically all farmers keep animals, which are usually herded on a communal basis and most people build up sheep flocks. With additional funds made available to the project, livestock production issues are being addressed by the development of supplementary feeds and improvements to production activities including the testing of improved fodder crops, etc.
The most "at risk" groups affected by drought were the Kuchies, who have benefited from the project.
