Ninety-two farm families, including women?s groups, have benefited by the installation of an irrigation system set up by the TeleFood project. - - Sustainable Vegetable Production using Modern Irrigation Techniques: TFD/97/001. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in collaboration with the National Institute of Agrarian Research in Peru, is executing the TeleFood-funded project. The sum of USD 10 000 has been allocated to help the rural community in Ayacucho district.

The project aims to increase horticultural production by using modern irrigation techniques to improve the nutritional food security of ninety-two small farming families in what is one of the poorest areas of the country. The families, which also comprise women?s groups, will receive fertilizers and the appropriate technology to ensure food security, social and rural development.
