Panjao, Hazarajat, Afghanistan, 1952 - Field work commences with the inoculation of goats. Four days later they will be killed and the rinderpest serum obtained from the spleen. Pierson and an Afghan vet assigned to the team inoculate a goat at Panjao. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has sent to Afghanistan a team of specialists in animal production, agricultural extension services, seed improvement, sugar beet production, small implements etc., to help that country increase its agricultural production and raise the living standard of its population.
