Papayas are one of the fruit crops grown at an FAO project site for experimental horticulture plantations. - - Horticulture Expansion/Green Belt. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations is assisting the Rural Development Ministry of Guinea-Bissau to expand horticulture activities in the Green Belt in order to increase the production of food crops, especially vegetables and fruit. FAO is helping to provide the technical assistance, farm tools and supplies; and the seeds and materials needed to cultivate more crops. FAO is also helping to enlarge the role of women engaged in horticulture work. The government is providing tractors and plantations for the project's experimental horticulture activities.
