Peking ducks are integrated in the semi intensive earthen fish breeding ponds at the Chilanga fish farm. Methods for collection of fry, every fortnight during the breeding season of the tilapia orechromis andersonii, have been standardized. - - Fish Seed Production. The necessity to establish fish seed production and distribution centres in different provinces of the Republic of Zambia was recognized from results obtained from feasibility and pilot studies conducted during 1981-1986 by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). A pure bloodstock of the tilapia Orechromis andersonii was introduced into the Chilanga fish farm from the Kafue River System and specialized ponds and successive production of fry and fingerlings have been maintained. The techniques for breeding and growing Peking ducks in order to integrate them in tilapia ponds have also been standardized. The results obtained at the Chilanga fish farm in the semi intensive earthen breeding ponds have been conclusive and similar fish seed production facilities using this method have been planned for Government fish farms throughout the country.
