Peshawar, Pakistan, May 1952 - Veterinarians of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) are advising the Animal Husbandry Laboratory operated by the Central Government of Pakistan, on the use of a dry-freezer for making vaccine for fighting fowl and animal disease.
This photograph shows FAO veterinarians H.R. Fishman and Abdul Aziz Khan (standing), Research Assistant in the Animal Husbandry Laboratory, placing ampoules with dried vaccine on back of dry-freezer where they are pumped to create a vacuum and then sealed off. The ampoules are now ready for use in the field. The dried tissue containing the rinderpest virus need only to be dissolved in a saline solution.
