Research and testing is carried out at the National Freshwater Aquaculture Development Centre at Sukabumi, Java, into edible frog and prawn culture for the export market. - - Small Scale Fisheries Development. Started in 1980, the four year FAO/UNDP Extension Services Support to Small-Scale Fisheries Project handles fishing and gear technology, boats and engines, shore establishments, post-harvest techniques, processing and marketing, extension methods and training, both in marine fisheries and fish culture, in the five provinces of North Sumatra, East, Central and West Java and South Sulawesi. The objective of the project is to demonstrate that these techniques can lead to some improvement in the living standards of fishing communities, even in conditions of extremely high population and diminishing fish resources.
